So that was the invitation I designed for my Grandpa's 75th birthday bash that brought us out to California. If you can't read the last line it says, "if you haven't ,you will. three times." A tribute to my grandpa's love of telling inappropriate jokes many, many times.
A preface to this post. My grandparents have lived in the same house for 50 years. It was a one room school house on an acre of land that they tirelessly worked on over the years. It's now an awesome little house with lots and lots of...stuff. :)
But everybody's favorite thing about the place is the detached building they added. Half of it is a garage filled with tools, cars, pinups (ugh.), junk, and guns galore. The other half is a bar. They call it the "family room" but, people, it's a bar. A real, live bar. Built expressly for the purpose of gathering family and friends for food, drink, conversation and the occasional peek at the pinups and other crude bar paraphanalia.(ugh.) It's such a convincing setup that during parties at the house strangers have been known to wander in and try to order and pay for drinks!
Parties at my grandparents place are legendary. In the old days it seems they thought of every excuse to throw them - birthdays, anniversary, retirements, thursdays. They're a little more scarce now that my grandparents are aging but when they do happen they're really something!
This particular night featured a slew of friends and relatives, food, drink, and a band.
Come on in and enjoy.

So sorry, Aunt Lu, but this picture was begging to be posted...

Singing "Family Tradition". It's a family tradition.

Hey Dee Dee, you know I am a faithful blog reader but not so much a faithful commenter. You're right there have been legendary parties out there. I think everyone had a pretty good time. Love the pics also, guess which one is my favorite?? She is ridiculously beautiful! I am just a little bias though. Can you e-mail me the print when you have a chance?

Oh Carla, you're so sweet for noticing! I actually just posted about that on my photography blog. Thanks for the link!
Janelle would you believe I didn't get a single shot of the bar this time? I know I have some in my archives though so I'll dig around and see what I can come up with.

Congrats on the Mag cover, it is WELL deserved.
Love you.
hey erin,
looks like your summer has been filled with family and good friends. that's what it's all about!
I am wondering, what online sharing site do you use to give your family their photos? I would like to be able to share full res files with my family spread across the country. we had a reunion and the obligatory family photos a few weeks ago!
thanks,
elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for commenting...been thinking about your family a ton lately.
I use shutterfly for the most part. It's nice to be able to let people order their own things. If I do a portrait session with friends or family though I use mpix.com. I just think their color and quality is so much better. Shutterfly is great for snaps though!
What a great looking family. Looks like so much fun.
Wow! What a great party! And the pictures are -- as usual! -- fabulous.
Now DeeDee...you're a great photographer, but missed taking this one over. Can't beleive that I need that-big-of-a-change, to even be willing to take another photo!!!
Love you, even though...
