Real quick though, check out the babes at Monticello...

And just for kicks, here we were 2 1/2 years ago (minus Jodi; plus Gina, Samantha, Amy, and Brandy). Feel free to gush about how we haven't aged a day.
More on all that later. Promise.
Switching gears...
A quick Mama Monday heads-up: Tomorrow let's talk about surviving the hospital/health crisis with your little one. I'll have a little bit of info to share based on what we learned when Sarah stayed overnight for dehydration and then broke her leg one month later. But really I'm hoping to get some advice tomorrow. I haven't been open about this on the blog but Ephraim will be having surgery on Tuesday morning and this mama is just a little freaked out. We've known about it since his birth so we've had time to prepare but, truthfully, 9 months just seemed SO far away. And now it's here and I'm scared for my little guy. It's not major (we won't be staying overnight) but I certainly wouldn't call it minor (it's a two hour surgery) so moral support and helpful hospital tidbits will certainly be appreciated. If anyone has an experience to share I'd love to hear it so keep an eye out for that MM post tomorrow morning!

Coming out of lurker mode, haha! My daughter had surgery at 5 months to remove an atretic meningocele. We knew it irratated her so we wanted it taken care of as soon as she hit the 15lb requirment. It was a very hard expirence handing over our baby to the surgery team even though we thought we were totally prepared. We cried and prayed! I think the hardest part of the whole ordeal was spliting from our other daugher, her twin--hard on us as the parents and her sibling as we were never seperated like that. Even though they were only 5 months they knew something was out of the normal. We now have a 3 month old son that will need surgery to correct hypospadism, which I need to do a lot more research on before we see the urology doctor. I guess where we saw the irrataion on our daughthers head there is nothing painful on him. So I debate if I should go with it or let him make the choice when he is older. I feel I dont know what to do with him but its probably because I dont know much about it. So for us in both situations the kids were little so we did not have to prepare the kid it was more preparing us. This time around we will have to explain it to the girls when their little brother has the surgery, if thats the route we go. My best advice is to pray and dont let him see you all upset cause he will feel your uneasyness and be a great advocate for him. I also know that the doctors are not all believers in pain in children, so make sure they medicate him appropriately. My daughter had 16 stitches down her little head and they only wanted to give her tylenol, come on, we ended up with morphine and fentanyl post op--little kid should not have to suffer. We had a one night stay with her and all has been well since and his surgery will in and out when and if we have it done. Best of Luck!

Trips with no children always FLY by!!
Secondly, my daughter had surgery on a clogged tear duct when she was 20 months. Sure no big deal, but they had to put this tube thing in her eye so it was about a 1 hour and 45 minute surgery! So definitly longer than doing like tubes or something. It is long, but no terrible. My advice is to be ready for him to wake up MAD! My daughter (although older) was so upset and mad at us. She wanted us to hold her, but was almost uncontrolable. Thankfully it doesn't last long and she was bad to normal really by the next day! Whatever the surgery is for I'm sure it will go well. We will say a prayer for little Ephraim and for you and your hubbie too :)
Oh, I'm so happy and sad to see that photo. Happy to see you together, but so sad I wasn't IN it! You girls look great, though.
And, hey, I was in that photo from 2 1/2 years ago too!
OH Amy we missed you!
Off to change the caption...
My little one had surgery at 14 months to open a blocked tear duct. His surgery was only about 20 minutes, but it was definitely hard when they had to take him away from us. They gave him a sedative to try to get him a little loopy first, and that seemed to help. Also, I had been warned that he'd come out of the anesthesia very agitated, and that was definitely the case! It would have freaked me out if I hadn't been prepared for it, but because I knew, I took it in stride. He had an early morning appt and by lunchtime was his normal self like nothing ever happened. Good luck!
I can't wait to hear about your girls weekend and am glad you had a wonderful time. I'm sorry to hear that Ephraim has to have surgery. It's never easy no matter what the surgery is. Good luck!
First, Jennifer looks GORGEOUS!
Second, I love Ephraim and I love his mama. Thimking about you two all day tomorrow and Tuesday.
I have no hospital experience, just wanted to say that my prayers will be with ya'll.
Buddy-Ro will be in my prayers.
Oh Erin, you guys look like you had a great time! Isn't it nice to be able to have fun with the girls - without kids?
Oh another note, I will do a buddy post on children and surgery as all three of mine have had minor (yet traumatic on me) surgeries. www.themarlinclan.blogspot.com My prayers are with your family.
hi erin...i don't comment much, but thought it important to let you know i'm praying for ephraim & your family & will have you in my prayers again tomorrow.
sending you hugs & wishing you calm nerves...God will guide his doctors & take good care of him :o)
I'll be praying for little E!!! gosh I can only imagine how hard it must be. My little one will have to have a small surgery after he is a year old and I just can't bear to think about it yet. I'll be thinking positive surgery vibes for Ephraim. You stay strong mama!
Hi Erin, I've followed princess pigbear since two peas in a bucket and have never commented. I work in a pediatric cardiology office in california and wanted to give a suggestion. I have 2 kids 5 year old girl and 5 month boy and they have never had surgery. Something we advice the parents is they bring something their child likes like a lovey or a video of some sort to have before and after their surgery wether it be major surgery or minor. I will pray for Ephraim! As a baby they are just afraid to be taken away from their mama and daddy so you stay strong for him so he's not afraid. We let the parents stay with their babies until asleep if going under anesthesia so ask if you can too so he doesn't actually see you go away.
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers,

wishing to be a photographer some day but continuing to work in the medical field which I love!
Erin, I'll be thinking about all of you, I can't imagine how scary surgery on your little one is. One of my dear friends' son had heart surgery around 9 months and we were all so nervous for her. It's amazing what babies can bounce back from though, he was healed and back to his perky self in a week or so. I'm sure Ephraim will be no different, I think things like this are always much harder on the parents then they ever are on the child...
Aww, poor Buddy-Ro! I'll be thinking of him and wishing him (and you) well.
i will keep your baby in my prayers. no surgery advice here. my daughter only had her tonsils removed. she ended up in the ER the next day dehydrated cause she would NOT drink...just make sure he drinks LOTS after!
hugs!
tara
Are you sure you don't have the pictures mixed up - because you all look YOUNGER to me! :)
