"pretty soon" finally happened
For the last month we've been putting Sarah off about Halloween with those two words: pretty soon. She wakes up most mornings and says these exact words in her sing-song little two-year-old-mimicking-mommy voice: "Not Halloween yet. Not Trick or Treat yet. Pretty soon." Needless to say she was pretty stoked that "pretty soon" finally happened!

Actually, here's a funny story. Last year on the day after Halloween I headed to PBK and loaded up on tons of sale stuff. They also told me that they would price adjust up to two weeks after the sale so if the prices went down any further I could just bring my receipt in and get some $$$ back. I'm ALL about that! :) I had big plans to cash in at the two week mark but then I got an email from...BABY GAP...and I was too busy calling, screaming, and celebrating to even think about a trip to PBK! So I ended up with the Halloween things at the original sale price, not the BIG SALE price. Oh well! :)

Kimberly, my shots were all at iso1600, 1.4, and shutter speeds were all pretty much somewhere below 1/60. WAY to slow for hand-held shots and I could have gotten the flash out but sometimes you just have to put the rules aside and be mommy instead of anal photographer, you know? =) I wouldn't blow any of these up big but I'm sure glad I have the memories. Thanks for asking!

Great shots. Reading your post had me remembering last year when my kids kept asking "When is Halloween?" It drove me a little crazy!! LOL!! So, this year I decided to play a little game of sorts with them so they would know EXACTLY when Halloween was. I should mention my four kids are ages 5(twins) 4 and 3. Last month I purchased 30 halloween themed books from a local discount book store (.50cents each) and I wrapped each of them in halloween themed paper and put them in a basket on our fireplace harth. Starting Oct 1st, each night the kids took turns picking one book from the basket for us to read before bed. When there were no more books left, they knew the NEXT DAY was Halloween. I've done this for Christmas as weel for since my twins were 2, but this was the first year I did it for Halloween. They LOVE it, and it helps with counting too!!

Hillary, what a fabulous idea...thanks for sharing! I told Brent about it over dinner tonight and we're definitely going to do it for Christmas this year. The sad thing is that I won't have to buy any new Halloween OR Christmas books in order to have enough for each month. My children's book addiction is over the top!
